The Harmony of Electronic Music and Retro Vibes - Profile & Artist Exploration
Combining music with visual engineering, DXWAVE began their career as a guitarist, working as a musical performer and studio recording session musician. Since 2020, they have shifted to working as a DJ and producer. DXWAVE creates dance music and visual aesthetics by composing through a sampling technique, where they adjust the tempo and pitch in genres such as Electronic, Synthwave, Funky House, Synthpop, RetroFunk, Lofi, Jazzhop, and NuDisco.
Born on April 25, 1980, DXWAVE grew up in Korea, heavily influenced by the retro sounds of 80s and 90s American music. They started their musical journey by learning guitar during elementary school, drawing inspiration from legendary guitarists like Jimi Hendrix, Larry Carlton, and Jeff Beck. Initially dreaming of becoming a guitarist, DXWAVE later fell in love with sampling and electronic music production, inspired by house music pioneers such as Daft Punk, Avicii, and Martin Garrix. This led them to transition into a composer, producer, and DJ, now composing and arranging music across various genres like house, electro-pop, synthwave, and lo-fi.
DXWAVE’s notable tracks include “Love You Baby,” “Dance,” “Bad Romance,” “I Can’t Get Over,” and “Free Falling.”
The track “Bad Romance” is a Neon POP song that blends 80s retro sound with modern pop elements, while “Dance” showcases a captivating Disco Pop style characterized by trendy and powerful rhythms.
“I Can’t Get Over” features dynamic grooves and future bass sounds, showcasing an addictive EDM vibe. Another notable track is “Love You Baby,” which gained fame as part of the soundtrack for the TVING original series “EXchange.”
“Free Falling” reinterprets the vibe of synthwave and funky house with modern electronic beats, creating a dreamy and fantastical atmosphere, as if traveling through space with a lover.
DXWAVE actively utilizes AI technology to produce AI-animated music videos, drawing more diverse and unique inspiration from this process. They hold a positive belief that AI technology will further enrich the future of art.
“Free Falling” and “Bad Romance” were inspired by vocal samples from J.O.Y, an R&B vocalist from Germany.
Additionally, “Walking in the Forest,” released as a Lo-Fi album, captures the warmth of analog emotions through Lo-Fi HipHop sounds. The album is filled with tracks that evoke a cozy, healing atmosphere, replicating the comforting sound of analog tape. DXWAVE composes and arranges music with an exploratory approach, without being confined to a specific genre, and explores a wide spectrum of genres.
Based on electronic music genres like house and disco, DXWAVE presents a rich and dynamic variety of musical styles by mixing analog and digital sounds.
Their musical inspiration comes from real-life experiences, focusing on reinterpreting classic songs through sampling to create new music. Influenced by artists like Michael Jackson and Daft Punk, DXWAVE expresses the idea that “all art is interconnected” through their unique musical approach.
Currently, they are working on a Lo-Fi album that combines serene piano and ambient sounds to help listeners comfortably fall asleep. At the same time, they are planning to periodically release music singles across various genres.
